Albany shootings have officers literally shedding light on trouble

ALBANY – A new light stanchion has been switched out at the corner of Second and Judson Streets to keep a light on the scene of the crime. Another shooting at the infamous intersection overnight Monday into Tuesday sent two people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Albany Police said.
The shooting happened at 32 Judson St. One person was shot in the ankle and the other was shot in the shoulder. A NewsChannel 13 photographer saw both victims put into ambulances.
Police say no arrests have been made and the shooting is under investigation.
On Sunday, May 26, a 17-year-old girl was shot in the same area and back on December 11, 2018, a 28-year-old man was shot in the chest and died at the intersection.
Albany Police have put up cameras and the spotlight on the street to try to combat crime.
"Everyday it's a new day," said Dileep Rathore. "We face new challenges. Especially when my family hears that gunshots going off and I live upstairs, they constantly worry. What's next?"
Rathore opened his Fresh Neighborhood Market at the corner of 1st and Judson Street back in October. He's trying to help people eat better and make better choices.
"We don't want to see a cop drive-by, we want cops to get involved with the community," Rathore said. "We want them to come and interact with the neighborhood. Because that's going to put the fear away. Because if they just drive-by, it feels like they're just monitoring you and we are animals, no. Come talk to us, hang out with us, get to know us."
