WESTERLO-  Albany County Deputies detained a man after his house caught fire, and then they arrested him.

Sheriff Craig Apple says around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, 35-year-old William Furman's house in Westerlo caught fire.  Apple says Furnman tried to re-enter the home as firefighters were trying to put out the blaze. Deputies detained him for his own safety.

The sheriff says Furnman then kicked out the rear window of a patrol car, and injured an EMT.

Furman was charged with felony assault, and felony criminal mischief. He's in jail on $50,000 cash bail.
