Opening statements begin in Saratoga Springs murder trial

A Saratoga County jury heard opening statements Friday in the Albert Mercer murder trial.

Judge Richard Sise denied NewsChannel 13's request for cameras in the courtroom.

Mercer is accused of stabbing and killing his neighbor, 46-year-old Patrick Collins, in Saratoga Springs.

Collins was taken to the hospital by his girlfriend who witnessed the attack.

Last week, Mercer was indicted on additional charges, including intimidating a witness and tampering with a witness.
