ALBANY - An apparent detached passenger train caused serious delays just outside of Albany.
Amtrak says the train heading to New York City was stopped due to a "mechanical issue" Wednesday around 8 p.m.
A passenger on the train posted on Twitter that he "heard a pop, smelled electrical burning, felt a rush of cold air" then looked back and saw part of the train missing.
Amtrak says a recovery engine got to the passengers just before 9 p.m.
NewsChannel 13 has been told the passengers have been transferred and are back en route.
@Amtrak My son just sent me this photo of the missing engine car on his train (#68). Basically the engine took off leaving the entire train and passengers behind. Is this how you get college kids home for the holidays? pic.twitter.com/s5hRnjYTgr— Joanne Ortiz (@Pixie_Rose) November 22, 2018
