You may need a new COVID shot each year. That's according to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.
He tells CNBC people fully vaccinated will likely need a booster every 12 months, and an annual shot is not out of the question.
The comments were made in an interview recorded April 1, but not released publicly until Thursday.
Both Pfizer and Moderna say their shots remains highly effective after six months, but researchers say more data is needed to determine protection after that.
Tests on new Pfizer and Moderna shots are already in the works.
