Sergeant Charles Salaway from Queensbury died from an illness connected to his work at Ground Zero. He was assigned to State Police Wilton.

You may recall Sergeant Jeremy Vannostrand was killed last November. The 36-year-old man was on his way to work at the Fonda barracks when his car was rear-ended by a box truck on State Route 5.

Also in attendance were the parents of the late trooper John McKenna IV. McKenna died while serving with the Marines in Iraq.

Seventeen members of the state police were also awarded for their service.
