CLIFTON PARK – Insert your favorite apple pun or saying here. They are all good to the core as apple picking season is upon us.

"I think it's a good season this year," said Isabel Prescott, owner of Riverview Orchards founded in 1945. "It's been excellent. We have lots and lots of apples. I think people are going to have a lot of fun picking them. We have plenty for everybody."

Along with Washington, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, New York is one of seven seedy states that produce 94-percent of apples nationwide, according to a report in Capital Press this past June.

And to peel back the numbers, while Washington is far and away the top apple producer, 171 million bushels last year, New York (31m) and Michigan (28m) second and third, respectively, according to pickyourown.com.

"We love having families come," Prescott said. "Kids come to have a good time, take a free hay ride, go out and pick apples, just have a ball around the farm."
