Assemblymember Frank Skartados passes away

The Assemblyman’s office confirmed that Assemblyman Frank Skaratados (D – Milton) passed away peacefully early this morning at St Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The 62-year-old was surrounded by family and friends.

Skartados's condition was discovered in late January when he was given a stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis; he was hospitalized on March 24. Funeral arrangements are being made at the DiDonato funeral home in Marlboro.

Skartados was born on the Greek island of Astypalaia and moved to New York City at 14.  He graduated with honors from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in political science and went onto earn a master's degree in International Studies from the State University of California Sacramento. Frank was interested in stopping environmental threats, easing tax burdens on localities and schools, and improving the quality of the grade school system. He was a four-term Assemblyman who is survived by his teenage daughter, Alyssa
