Niskayuna shooting victim identified

NISKAYUNA – Police have released the name of the victim shot in Niskayuna on Monday evening. She is 21-year-old Ayanna Hunter.

Hunter is a former NewsChannel 13 All-Star basketball player. She was shot while attending a party at the Hillcrest Village West Apartment Complex. A mix of adults and kids live there.

Niskayuna Police Chief Dan McManus said the department received a call for shots fired around 8:30 Monday night. He said around six to eight shots were fired, but only Hunter was injured. He said she was taken to Ellis Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Some estimates put the number of people attending the party around 100. As soon as the shots were fired, everyone at the party scattered – leaving behind food, drinks, cards, a cooler – even cigar packets and a sweatshirt.

Police have not made any arrests.
