Bear sighting prompts middle school lockout in Guilderland

Students were kept inside Tuesday afternoon at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland after a bear was spotted in the area.

The animal was seen on the school grounds shortly after 1 p.m. That's according to an email sent to parents.

Any students outside were sent back into the school and a lockout was initiated. The school says no students were ever in any danger.

Guilderland police and the state Department of Environmental Conservation were called. Police were planning to provide support during dismissal.
