Black Bean Burgers

2 - 14.5 oz cans of black beans, drained
1/2 sweet onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup seasoned whole wheat bread crumbs
1 large egg
1teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red cayenne pepper
Mash the drained beans in a bowl with a spoon or avocado tool. Add the onions, bread crumbs, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black & cayenne peppers to the black beans. In a cutting fashion, mix all of the ingredients together.
Form the mixture into burger styled patties.
How many burgers does the mix make? This mix will make approximate 5 burgers.
Cook the patties in a skillet styled pan coated with non-stick cooking spray, covered, over medium to low heat. Cook until each side is toasted brown.
Top the burgers with cheese. You can use sliced cheese, but shredded will stretch further. We love the pepper jack cheese, but sharp or your favorite will work fine!
