The homicide happened at 491 Pawling Ave. in Troy. Multiple police cars surrounded the area Sunday night.

Police say they were called to do a welfare check at the two-family residence around 5:30 Sunday evening. They say that's when they found a young woman dead inside on the second floor.

They tell NewsChannel 13 a 1-year-old child who lives at the home was found safe and sound somewhere else in Troy.

Lights were on in the home on both floors as authorities worked to understand the incident.

Right now, police are not saying how or when Haughton was killed, and why someone would be concerned enough to call police to check on her.

The home is just two doors down from Sacred Heart Church and School in a residential neighborhood.
