MacPherson had been working in the area for a few weeks and always stopped in for coffee.

A big fan of scratch-off tickets - his strategy was to only buy tickets with low numbers on them.

The tickets he bought were numbered 1 and 2. When he scratched off that second ticket at work, he saw it was a winner.

MacPherson chose the one-time lump sum payment - totaling $537,440 after taxes. He plans to invest some, buy a 4-wheeler and visit St. John and a few other islands – then return to work as a builder.
