COLONIE - Carlie Santiago, 5, of Amsterdam and her family arrived in style in a limousine at CAP COM in Colonie. Inside, a crowd was waiting with a lot of smiles and picture-taking.

CAP COM worked with Make-A-Wish to grant one for Carlie.

"Being able to see and feel what a wish really gives a family -- it gives them support, it gives them hope when they're going through a tough time," said CAP COM Director of Community Engagement Amanda Goyer. "So we are so proud to work with Make-A-Wish."

"Her stroller is her real safe haven," said Make-A-Wish Northeast New York CEO Bill Trigg. "And so when her wish-granters met with the family and got to know Carlie, it became very clear, very quickly, to them that having a new custom-made stroller for her would be the most appropriate wish for her."

A lot went into the stroller. 4 X Heaven in Gloversville worked to modify and decorate a new one, with the help of different businesses and volunteers.

"We really got ramped up once we got involved, and it was a lot of fun," said Vincent Perrella of 4 X Heaven. "And being here today, to be able to be here to see it -- sometimes you do stuff and you don't get to see the final product, but this was fun."

It has everything from unicorns and butterflies, to a Dr. Seuss quote on her tray, to special padding, to a tablet connected to a speaker that's attached to the chair.

"And I know that she loves wheels, she likes everything with wheels, and I said let's get her a stroller that she can feel comfortable and she can enjoy herself," said Carlie's mother, Elsa Alvarez. "And that way it will last her a long time and it will be better for her."

"All I can say is it's amazing," said Carlie's father, Juan Santiago. "Me, Carlie, the whole family, we appreciate everything. That's all I can say. Thank you, thank you so much!"

CAP COM has partnered with Make-A-Wish Northeast New York for the past five years.
