"It's a staple of the community,” said Matt Hill, who is on the Board of Directors of the Troy Bowling Association. “Bowling community and the Lansingburgh community."

Wednesday evening members of the Scaccia family, who own the alley, were going through the rubble.

“Alpha, they’re a great family,” said Hill. “The Scaccias, just great people it was a terrible, terrible loss for the bowling community.”

Many bowlers at Spare Time Wednesday night said they have bowled at Alpha Lanes at some point during their bowling leagues.

“I did bowl all through high school and when I was younger, so I competed there as a high school bowler and now as a high school bowling coach my team does compete there,” said Pam Bertrand, Association Manager of the Troy Bowling Association.

The alley is also remembered as one of the few wood lanes in the Capital Region. Many bowlers also remembered the alley for its welcoming atmosphere.

“You walk in there and they just treat you like you're one of their own,” said Hill. “It was a great group and no matter who you were they made you feel at home when you walked in there.

Many said they hope the family rebuilds.

“I would love to see it rebuilt, but we'll see what happens,” said Hill.
