SCHENECTADY – It’s a pivotal day for sports betting in New York State. The Gaming Commission is meeting in New York City to give the final OK to sports betting at four upstate casinos. It would permit wagers at Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier and Del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes.

Bets won't start until the facilities receive their wagering licenses, however, which is likely to be later this summer.

There will be a huge 53’ x 9’ LED screen that can show multiple games plus betting windows and kiosks for fans to place their bets.

“We haven't had that excitement or thrill to go along with our fantastic sports that we have here in New York so it's really going to be a huge new amenity for the entire region,” said Justin Moore, GM at Rivers. He moved here from Las Vegas where he managed casinos with sports books.

The new Rivers Sportsbook is adjacent to Van Slyck’s lounge, located directly off the casino’s main gaming floor. It will be about 5,000 sq. ft. with club chairs, table seating that will hold approximately 80 guests and includes five private booths with TV monitors – each accommodating up to six people, 18 individual VIP seats, and 32 tabletop seats.
