This year marks the 35th year of women’s professional golf in the Capital Region.

Albany will be the 16th stop on this year’s road to the LPGA with the CDPHP Open Golf Tournament at Capital Hills. The tournament has been held at Capital Hills for the past 16 years.

144 players, from 31 different countries, will compete in the tournament. 73 players are from the United States and four players have New York ties.

A few players even have ties to the Capital Region, including a University at Albany Golf Coach and a Siena College player.

The total purse is 125,000 dollars. The winner will receive a prize of just over 18,000 dollars.

The idea is for players to earn enough money throughout the season so they can earn their card and get to the LPGA.

The top ten players will advance to play in the LPGA.

“There is a good chunk of players that you will be watching out here this weekend that will be playing on the big stage next year,” said Zachary Sepanik with the Symetra Tour.

The tournament begins on Friday and will run through Sunday.
