A Queensbury family won't have to pay rent for their deceased father's apartment.

As NewsChannel 13 reported earlier this week, Charles Stoddard never got to move into his new apartment at The Willows in Queensbury. The 84-year-old man passed away a couple weeks before his lease was to begin.

His daughter, June, told Mark Mulholland this week that she was shocked that the landlord, Schermerhorn Holdings, insisted on being paid monthly rent even though he died before he could get a key.

When Mark approached the company, they told him it was a legal matter, but on Wednesday they sent him a letter saying they've changed their minds, writing, "Given these unusual circumstances, we will provide his estate a full refund and waive any additional charges."

The family of Charles Stoddard released this statement in response:

“We are very grateful for NewsChannel 13 shedding light on the situation so our voice was heard.”
