Some closed National Grid accounts mistakenly reported to collections agency

A NewsChannel 13 viewer reached out to us on Tuesday concerned about a collections notice they received on their National Grid account. He said he never missed a payment.
We contacted National Grid, the company investigated and found there is a problem.
Some customers who closed their National Grid accounts on September 28, September 29 and October 3, did have their accounts mistakenly reported to a collection agency.
A National Grid spokesman says they are now conducting an audit to determine how widespread this might be.
He thanked NewsChannel 13 for bringing this to their attention and is now urging all customers who receive a similar notice to call them if they believe it's in error.
The number to call is 1 (800) 642-4272.
They insist this will not impact your credit report.
