A Colonie police officer is injured after a driver fleeing police hit his cruiser. Colonie police say shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, a sergeant saw a gray 2008 Cadillac speeding down the eastbound side of Central Avenue (Rt. 5) by Jupiter Lane. When the officer attempted to pull the car over, police say it sped off. The officer pursued the car. The chase ended when the Cadillac hit a different police car. Witnesses say the driver was going so fast that the car's tire blew off in the collision.

The officer in the car was injured, taken to Albany Medical Center and released after treatment. Colonie police say the driver is Tommy Ehlers (28) of Schenectady. They said he did not request medical treatment. Ehlers was arrested on a pile of charges including assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, driving while impaired by drugs and reckless driving. He will be arraigned in Colonie Town Court. Witnesses are asked to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Unit 518-783-2744.
