Schools are open Wednesday for Ichabod Crane Central School District after the Columbia County Sheriff's Office determined there was no credible threat to the school or students.

The investigation started after a threatening post on social media on Tuesday.  The sheriff's office says there may be an increased police presence on campuses Wednesday.

Sheriff David Bartlett posted a statement on Facebook Wednesday morning:

"After school was dismissed yesterday we received information of a possible threat to the school. Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched to the school as well as an investigator from the Criminal Investigation Branch. The case was investigated and determined that there was no threat to the school. We will follow up with the investigation this morning.

You may see additional deputy’s and troopers on the grounds today. I will also be on campus today working with staff. Please know that your children are safe!! ICC did a great job yesterday contacting us immediately when the information was relayed to them. If anyone has any questions please let me know.

The school was able to get this post out last night. Please understand that it was released later on in the evening because they had to wait until we had all of the information to them. Investigations take time to be done correctly. The school administration and staff did a great job yesterday assisting us with this investigation. Working together makes everyone and every place safer."

The district posted the following statement on Facebook late Tuesday night:

"Today after dismissal, it was brought to the attention of Ichabod Crane administration that a high school student had made a post on social media that was considered threatening to the High School.

We immediately contacted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and they began conducting a full investigation of the possible threat. As a result of the thorough investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with school administration, it has been determined that there is no credible threat against any of the schools or students.

Please know that student safety is of the utmost importance to us and any threat made to the District and its schools is taken very seriously according to our district policies. We will be taking this as an opportunity to talk to the student body about the seriousness of making certain statements on social media and the consequences that can result from them.

All Ichabod Crane schools will be open as normal on Wednesday, September 12.

We apologize for posting this message at such a late hour. We have been working closely with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department throughout the evening and received final confirmation after their investigation concluded around 10:30 pm. We will be following up with a Blackboard Connect call in the morning to parents/guardians.

Thank you."
