First on 13, a police officer from the Hoosick Falls Police Department is on administrative leave and sources say it may be connected to the escape of Justin Faatz.

Reporter Jill Konopka spoke to that officer on Thursday, who confirms he was placed on leave Wednesday, but would not say why. When NewsChannel 13 called the police station, we were told that officer will be out all week.

You may remember Justin Faatz escaped police custody in Hoosick Falls last month, walking right out the front door of the police station which also serves as the village's municipal building. Faatz still had a handcuff attached to his wrist, prompting many to ask how this happened.

Faatz died less than a week later, after his body was found at an apartment in Athol, Massachusetts. Authorities said then they believed he overdosed on drugs.

Both the police chief and mayor have told NewsChannel 13 they cannot comment on personnel matters -- and the incident is still under investigation.

NewsChannel 13 asked for video of the incident in question. Our request was denied due to the ongoing police investigation and village officials say releasing it would reveal criminal investigative techniques or procedures.

The chief said before he accepts full responsibility for what happened.
