Eric Rosenbrock was sentenced Monday – one year after the tragic incident in the couple's home.

Rosenbrock was cleaning his 9 mm handgun on the night of Nov. 15, 2018 when it fired and killed his wife and childhood sweetheart, Ashley Rosenbrock.

A grand jury indicted him on a manslaughter charge, and he could've faced a sentence of up to five to 15 years in prison.

He agreed to plead guilty in September to criminally negligent homicide. By pleading to the lesser charge, Rosenbrock avoided the risk of a prison sentence and can continue to care for the couple's three young children.

Ashley Rosenbrock's mother spoke in court at the sentencing. She talked about her grief and about supporting her son-in-law.
