Arrest made after Central Avenue crash

COLONIE - 54-year-old Walter Jones of Ohio was arrested Saturday following a morning crash on Central Avenue. 

According to police, it ended with a Ford van striking a utility pole before veering across rote 5 and slamming into the woods near the busy intersection on Wold Road.

Mangled electrical wires littered the road as firefighters, police, DOT, and National Grid crews responded. 

As a result, the Eastbound lanes and ramps from I-87  were shut down for two hours. Less than five hours after the accident, Colonie Police arrested Jones. 

Officers say Jones was the only person in the van and has been charged with driving while ability impaired and failure to stay in his lane. 

He was rushed to Albany Medical Center by ambulance for facial injuries.
