Crews battle explosions and fire at DOT yard

VOORHEESVILLE -- It was quite the spectacle Friday morning at the DOT yard.
Just after 5 a.m., 911 calls came in reporting explosions and fire at the yard off of Maple Road. Crews arrived to find three DOT trucks on fire. Flames were brought under control quickly, and the Albany County Sheriff and state fire investigators got to work determining a cause.
NewsChannel 13 is being told one of the three trucks that caught fire had a history of mechanical problems, specifically a heating mechanism that kept fluids warm. It appears there was a spark that ignited the diesel fuel and the flames spread to the other two trucks.
It's not being considered suspicious at this time. No one was hurt and the authorities say it looked a lot worse than it was.
The DOT declined to offer a comment or say if the incident will affect their work going forward. However, authorities say the estimated value of the three vehicles is about $550,000. The oldest of the three is about six years old.
