March 11, 2019 03:22 PM

The father of a teenager hit by a car in Troy last week spoke exclusively to NewsChannel 13 on Sunday.

Brian Scott says his 16-year-old daughter, Zalaila, has a long road to recovery after being hit on Eighth Street Tuesday night while trying to cross the road.

The driver was issued a traffic ticket after police say he did not see the girl because the street was dark.

Her father says this shouldn't have happened and hopes the incident will force changes so something like this doesn't happen again.

Officers say speeding has been an issue on that stretch of road - and are considering putting a speed trailer on the street to collect data.
