September 19, 2019 06:19 PM

SCHENECTADY - Police have now identified the woman found dead in an apartment on Maplewood Avenue in Schenectady on Wednesday night. They also now say the death was a homicide.

They say the victim is 35-year-old Marian Singh, but they say she also went by Marian Loftis.

Her body was found after police got a distressed 911 call just after 10 p.m., but they had a hard time making out exactly what was being said.

Ultimately they decided it was an unknown trouble call, so they came to the address in the 800 block of Maplewood Avenue in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood of the city of Schenectady.

When officers got there, family members were outside and told them Singh's body was inside in the upstairs apartment.

There were initial reports that police were looking for a pickup truck that could've been related to this suspicious death. However, Sgt. Dearing said on Thursday they don't have any vehicle in particular they're looking for.

Sgt. Dearing says the family members who were outside when police arrived Wednesday night are cooperating with the investigation.
