They say the agency has been getting a ton of calls about bears causing trouble in the area.

The DEC adds the bears have been looking for more food because of a lack of food in the woods due to dry conditions.

Homes with bird feeders and other bear attractant will first be given a written warning. If residents don't comply, they will be issued a ticket with a maximum penalty of a $250 fine and 15 days in jail.
