The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has now finalized regulations for the plastic bag ban.

NewsChannel 13 Investigates has been following the story closely.

Those thin film plastic grocery bags are still banned, but more types of plastic bags are exempt from the law.

Stores can still use plastic bags to sell goldfish, for example. Restaurants can still use plastic bags for takeout.

The DEC new defines a thin film bag as less than 10 mils thick, or one one-hundredth of an inch. Environmentalists are complaining about that definition.

A full list of bags that are now allowed can be found here.
