Delmar couple dies two days apart after 78 years of marriage

DELMAR - Two people from Delmar married for 78 years, die within 48 hours of each other.

Evelyn Bennett Drake died on July 20. Gilbert Orzell Drake died on July 22. They would have turned 99 and 101, respectively, in August.


Mrs. Drake ran a nursery school, called Playtime, out of her home and was the longest living member of the Delmar Reformed Church. Mr. Drake was a World War II veteran, who later owned and operated DA Bennett.

They leave behind a number of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be sent to Delmar Reformed Church.
