QUEENSBURY – Brayden Dock, 13, an 8th grader at Glens Falls H.S., is headed to Augusta, Georgia this spring for the finals of the national "Drive, Chip & Putt" competition. It's an annual event that begins with hundreds of entries until 80 are left in four age categories, boys and girls.

Local qualifying for this seventh season began in May and was held at more than 300 sites throughout all 50 states. The top-three scorers per venue advanced to more than 60 sub-regional qualifiers in July and August. The top two juniors in each age and gender division then competed at the regional level in September and October.

Dock advanced at TPC Cromwell in Connecticut on September 29 and now will spend the next few months making sure his game is ready for the big stage.

"I love chipping and putting," Dock said. "My putting could be a little bit better right now but I've just got to hit the ball a little bit further."

He is coached by Anders Mattson of Saratoga National and Scott Berliner of Hiland Golf Club. Both are top players in the Northeastern New York PGA section.

"Honestly, everything I've done in golf up until this point is probably one of my proudest moments just to be associated with his success and watch him and the joy he got from it, it was pretty cool," Berliner said.

Brayden is the third player from the area to qualify. In 2016, Nicole Criscone of Clifton Park made it. In 2017, Kennedy Swedick of Voorheesville got there.
