A special memorial was held Saturday for a Brunswick teen who passed away last week.

Emily LaPorte was a student at Tamarac High school. She was adopted shortly after she was born, but had a great relationship with both her adoptive and birth parents who lived in Plattsburgh.

Friends and family got together at the high school to pay respects.

Those who knew Emily said she had a village to raise and love her.

"As a school community we always feel like we're connected to our community and in the absence of having regular school, this is the only way we thought we could support the family and her friends," said Angelina Maloney, the Superintendent of the Brunswick School District. "She was a beautiful singer, a very, very bright light ready to go on to her next steps and we just thought this was the only way to do it."

Emily was a senior at Tamarac High School and had been accepted into Hartwick College. She was also a member of the school's chorus and choir.
