Dutch Apple collides with USS Slater
September 11, 2019 10:54 AM
A ship has hit the U.S.S. Slater.
NewsChannel 13's Jill Konopka just happened to be on a sightseeing tour on Dutch Apple Cruises when it happened on Tuesday afternoon.
You could hear the boats crunching together.
Jill says she heard the captain of the Dutch Apple saying they "lost transmissions" and shortly after that the collision happened.
There's no word on damage to either the Dutch Apple or the destroyer escort at this point.
A third boat, the John J. Harvey, was also hit. The sightseeing boat was waiting on Tuesday for tugboats to help move it.
Hear from people on the boat by watching the video of the story.

Ron Lasher is the captain of our boat: He tells me it was mechanical failure. He’s unclear if it was an electronic failure or a cable broke with the transmission, @WNYT he is pleased nobody got hurt
