Wells’ mother, Patricia Keller, says her son was facing a felony burglary charge for allegedly stealing his cousin’s dirt bike.

The undersheriff tells NewsChannel 13 the deputy was bringing two people out of the courthouse when Wells bolted and ran off in the woods.

His mother says her son was scared of ending up in prison and that’s why he ran.

"He is a great boy and what he did wrong, he just got mixed up with the wrong crowd," said Keller, through tears. "He would not hurt a fly. He wouldn’t have normally done this if he was not scared and he is scared out of his mind."

"I want him to come home. I want him to turn himself in and do the right thing," she continued.

Court staff say the sheriff's department sent out an emergency notification call. Wells is described as a white man wearing sweatpants and a purple shirt, with dark covered pants. He is handcuffed behind his back.

Deputies say if you see him, give them a call, don’t approach him.

NewsChannel 13 continues to follow this story. We will bring you updates on and our later newscasts as we learn more.
