Parents who were hoping to get their children under 12 vaccinated against COVID-19 by the beginning of the school year will have to wait a little longer.

According to the FDA, emergency authorization for COVID-19 vaccines in younger children could come in early to midwinter.

The agency hopes to then move quickly to full approval of the vaccine for this age group.

COVID-19 vaccines have only been authorized for people ages 12 and older.
