Idle tank catches fire at Glenville asphalt plant

GLENVILLE - Fire crews battled a blaze on Freemans Bridge Road on Thursday morning.

The incident happened at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions, not far from the Waters Edge Lighthouse Restaurant. An idle tank at the plant caught fire at 6:30 a.m., releasing billows of smoke into the area. The fire has since been put out.

No injuries were reported and Freemans Bridge Road has been re-opened to traffic.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Last year, two employees were killed in an explosion at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions. A third worker was injured.
