Firefighters warn of flammable Christmas tree dangers

As many people prepare to celebrate the holidays the Firemen's Association of the State of New York wants to remind people about a few tips when decorating this season.


Though Christmas tree fires aren't extremely common, experts say when they do happen, they cause significant damage.

They say not only are the trees extremely flammable, they're typically around gifts and furniture that can also catch fire.

Fortunately, there are a few simple tips you can follow to prevent your tree from catching fire. They include checking the water reservoir every day and keeping an eye out for broken or missing bulbs on the light strings.

It's not just live trees you have to worry about. Artificial ones can also cause problems. Find out why by watching the video of Emily Burkhard's story.
