SCHENECTADY - The rain and snow melt could cause major problems along the Mohawk - especially flooding. One area of concern is the Stockade section of Schenectady.

NewsChannel 13 spoke with Schenectady County Emergency Management, Schenectady Police Department and Schenectady Fire Department. Everyone is preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.

Residents who live in the area – many who have lived in the area for decades – are planning to monitor the weather and keep a close eye on the river.

They are optimistic because they say it has been so cold recently. They say the ice on the Mohawk River has been very thick and they believe that will lead to a slower runoff of water and not the massive flood that's problematic.

The fire department says they're ready to make evacuations. If you know someone who lives in the Stockade section and has a medical issue or special need, make sure they know.
