Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is scheduled to be sentenced today.

He was once one of the most powerful politicians in New York State before corruption charges ended his career.

The fate of Silver rests with a judge who sentenced him to 12 years after his first conviction in 2015.

That ruling was tossed out by an appeals court after a ruling by the Supreme Court narrowed the definition of corruption.
