Former Defreestville fire chief dies

A former Capital Region fire chief passed away over the weekend.

Former Defreestville Fire Chief Ray Swart was a firefighter for more than 30 years -- and also served as chief of operations for the Waterford Rescue Squad.

Swart had pancreatitis for over 20 years and was recently battling complications including sepsis.

He died Sunday.

He leaves behind a wife and two sons.

NewsChannel 13 is working to get information on funeral arrangments.
