Gov. Cuomo signed several bills aimed at improving limousine safety on Monday.

The comprehensive 10-point package includes new seat belt requirements, increased penalties for illegal U-turns, the ability to impound defective vehicles, and regular validation of vehicle safety information.

The legislation also includes the following:

  • GPS Requirements for Limousines
  • New Customer Service Resources
  • Driver's License Validation
  • Creation of Passenger Task Force
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing
  • Seatbelt Use in Taxi and Livery Vehicles

The new legislation comes after lawmakers failed to reach an agreement at the end of session last year after a limo crash in Schoharie killed 20 people in October 2018.
