A longtime Great Barrington employee is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $100,000 of town money.

Deborah Ball was arraigned Wednesday in Berkshire Superior Court. She worked in the treasurer-collector's office for 35 years.

An audit last year found money was missing from the town coffers.

Investigators say she embezzled real estate and excise taxes paid to the town in cash, then tried to cover the losses with portions of check payments made by other taxpayers.
