WATERFORD - Two weeks ago, NewsChannel 13 was there as Fire Chief Frederick Gaudette verbally resigned.

At the time, we learned the Chief suspended the Assistant Chief, Anthony Bonaventre and firefighter, Earl McMahon, who also happens to be a fire commissioner.

Anyone, who is suspended cannot while suspended, be nominated to office.

Fire Commissioner McMahon says the town law states that the fire District elects the three offices.

However, Fire Commissioner John D'Allessandro, who is a spokesperson for the district does not want to set that precedent and let the company do what they've done for the past six decades.

"I believe this is a company issue not a district issue the suspension was done at the company level under the company bylaws and it concerns me that we're trying to set up a whole new process here and in fact take away one of the most important functions the company has, is to nominate some of its members for the chiefs positions," D'Allessandro said.

The Board of Directors reduced the Assistant Chief's suspension from 59 to 30 days. Both Bonaventre and McMahon's suspensions are up December 4th. Elections take place December 5th.
