Clifton Park man sentenced for killing dog

A man from Clifton Park was sentenced Friday to two years in jail for killing a dog and throwing it in a dumpster.

Hank Smith is also banned from owning or possessing any animals for an indefinite period of time. It's the maximum allowed by law for aggravated cruelty to animals.

It's not clear why he killed the miniature pinscher named Nicholas, which belonged to his girlfriend.

She spoke in court Friday about the death of her beloved dog and shared pictures of Nicholas that she keeps on her phone.
