Health Beat: Huntington's Disease

Huntington's disease is a progressive, inherited brain disorder. There is no cure. It affects more than 14,000 New Yorkers. A child with a parent who has Huntington's disease has a 50 percent chance of inheriting the disorder themselves. With the availability of genetic screening tests, the need for information and counseling is critical. If one family member learns their fate, it has implications for the rest of the family -- and not everyone wants to know.
