Less than a week after a 34-year-old man escaped police custody in Hoosick Falls, he was found dead in Massachusetts.

Authorities believe Justin Faatz died from an apparent drug overdose.

Faatz walked right out the front door of the police station on March 27 with a handcuff still attached to his wrist, prompting many to ask how this happened.

Police in Hoosick Falls say his body was found at an apartment in Athol, Massachusetts, about 90 miles away.

Faatz's escape set off a massive manhunt involving not only local authorities, but New York State Police, Vermont State Police, Bennington Police, Massachusetts authorities and railroad police among other agencies.

An autopsy has yet to be done, and police last week said he had known drug problems.

Residents in this small town of Hoosick Falls also have their own questions.

Last week, without placing blame, the Police Chief Robert Ashe said openly as the head of this department he accepts responsibility for this happening.
