State police are searching for a man who may have ripped off three Lake George area hotels.

Police believe he ripped off the hotels through an elaborate scam to illegally charge rooms, food and drinks to people who were already staying there.

NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Post-Star report the targeted hotels include the Sagamore Resort, Fort William Henry Hotel, and Holiday Inn of Lake George. They say it happened last month and earlier this month.

The suspect allegedly scammed them out of more than $2,600 by sneaking into rooms when they're being cleaned, and calling the front desk to extend the stay of the real guests.

NewsChannel 13 is told the man has done the same sort of thing in New York City and Florida.
