Huge fire destroys Troy bowling alley
May 08, 2019 06:16 PM
LANSINGBURGH - Several blocks around Alpha Lanes in Lansingburgh were still shut down late Wednesday afternoon, while firefighters work to determine what caused a fire that reduced the Troy bowling alley to ashes.
There were tense moments for fire crews, when two firefighters were reported missing before they escaped from the burning building.
The fire chief says no one was hurt and the fire did not spread to any of the nearby buildings. However, they do have water damage.
Troy Fire Chief Eric McMahon says a passerby called in the fire just before 10 a.m.
When crews arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from the 2nd floor roof. When they opened the door to look inside, McMahon says they immediately triggered the 2nd alarm.
McMahon says two firefighters went missing for a few moments. Crews began looking for them, they were located and helped out of the burning building.
Everyone associated with buildings in this block have been located.
Several blocks around Alpha Lanes will be shut down until the building is demolished.
Chief McMahon says the fire was already out of control by the time they arrived on scene -- and the lacquered wood on the floor of the bowling alley certainly didn't slow things down.
There will be an investigation, but because of the damage, they're not sure how much that will reveal.

2/3 This is due to a nearby fire that is causing a large amount of smoke in the area and the current loss of power at those three schools. We ask that parents please DO NOT come to the schools to pick-up students as this will cause mass congestion and confusion.

1/3 PLEASE READ: Rensselaer Park Elementary, Knickerbacker Middle School and Lansingburgh High School will be dismissing early today, May 8. Turnpike Elementary will not be dismissing early and will dismiss at the normal time.
