HUNTER - This is the time of year when ski resorts are typically busy making snow.

However, Hunter Mountain says they're ahead of the game this year. They opened for the season on Friday.

Hunter Mountain Resort says the combination of cold temperatures and freshly made snow made conditions absolutely ideal to start their winter season.

Dozens of skiers and riders lined the slopes with excitement for fresh powder on the four mountain terraces.

Over the last year, the resort was purchased by the Vail Resorts family. Since then, the new owners have added a new trail, cleaned up existing ones, and widened many of them.

However, they are most excited to be able to offer customers the chance to purchase what is called an Epic Pass – enabling skiers and riders to visit resorts all around the country, even as far away as Australia.

Right now, the pass is just over $700 for the season. They say this is a great deal compared to the cost of the average lift ticket, which is roughly under $100 a day.

Many of the people NewsChannel 13 spoke with say they look forward to the opening day all summer. Hear from some of them by watching the video of Brooke Selby's story.
