Hurricane Dorian's air travel impacts ripple into Capital Region

September 02, 2019 06:15 PM

Hurricane Dorian is impacting air travel across the United States, including right here in the Capital Region.

Several airports in Florida were closed on Monday. That actually caused some issues for a family flying here to Albany. Keri Lavergne says she and her family were in Orlando to go to Disney for one last trip before school starts. However, because Orlando started canceling flights days in advance, they were forced to come up with a series of alternate plans.

Lavergne says she decided to rent a car and drive to Savannah from Orlando and then took a flight here to Albany International. To get back to Montreal, they have to rent another car here to drive to Plattsburgh to then get in another rental car to get back home before school starts.

Lavergne says though she lives in Canada now, she's very familiar with hurricanes and the headaches and harm they can cause.

Hear from travelers about how they're dealing with the change in plans, by watching the video of Emily Burkhard's story.
